Txakolina

Txakolina is the traditional wine of the lands overlooking the Bay of Biscay. Due to wet weather, usual in this area, the txakolina has historically been a low-grade and high acidity wine. But recently, thanks to the new techniques in the vinyeard, the maturity and quality of the grapes has greatly improved, and wineries have been equipped with modern facilities, so that the txakolina has become a well-regarded wine.

In the Basque Country there are three Regulatory Councils of denomination of origin, one for each territory:

Arabako Txakolina …. Bizkaiko Txakolina …. Getariako Txakolina

Mendraka txakolina

A nest in the strain

In Esteñibar we grow one hectare of vineyard (2,300 strains) and we are linked to the Bodega Elizalde, which produces the Mendraka wine, a very recognized Basque txakolina.

A vineyard in wet climate requires a significant commitment, but instead gives priceless moments and images.
